USAPEEC Staff’s visit to Kyrgyzstan with EMP Initiative
USAPEEC Staff’s visit to Kyrgyzstan with EMP Initiative.
Jean Murphy and Bella Ablaeva of USAPEEC along with Eric Trachtenberg have visited Kyrgyzstan under funding provided within Emerging Markets Program Initiative.
The main goal of the trip was to establish good relationship with key government officials and to introduce group to the current conditions of US poultry exports to Kyrgyzstan.
The group met with the representatives of US Embassy in Bishkek to discuss current situation in Kyrgyzstan after elections held last month.
During the visit meeting with Minister of Agriculture, Heads of the Departments of the Ministry of Agriculture and Head Vet of Kyrgyzstan were held.
“Travel allowed USAPEEC to establish a positive and cooperative relationship with Kyrgyzstan’s two most important officials – the Minister of Agriculture and the Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO). This will greatly enhance industry’s ability to defend its interests if Kyrgyzstan’s entry into the Customs Union disrupts trade. “ – Eric Trachtenberg believes.
Ablaeva introduced group to the major importers in Kyrgyzstan and arranged visits to several cold storages, Customs Point “Bishkek-1”, Railroad station, etc.
She has also arranged tours to the wholesale markets.
During a meeting at the Ministry - Minister of Agriculture offered to visit the State Vet Lab of Kyrgyzstan.
The group accompanied by the Head Vet and Director of the State Center for Veterinary Diagnostics of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan took a detailed tour of all the premises of the lab.
USAPEEC CA Office note: Actual volumes of US CLQs going to Kyrgyzstan in 2010 were over 60,000 MT. This year the number is almost 48,000MT.
