Ukraine: The State Committee on Technical Regulation and Consumer Policy (Gospotrebstandart) has developed Technical Regulation on food labeling

The State Committee of Ukraine on Technical Regulation and Consumer Policy promulgated a Draft Order “On Approval of Technical Regulation on food labeling”.

As reported on the official website of the Committee the practical aim of the Draft Order is to approve the Technical regulation that would introduce terminology and definitions common with those that are already applied in International practice. Unified rules for food labeling and rules for providing information should be established taking into account the production characteristics, packaging, storage, as well as consumption of certain types of goods.

Regulatory Act is developed by Gospotrebstandart pursuant to a Plan of actions for implementing the 2010 National program of adaptation of Ukrainian legislation to EU laws. This Plan was approved by Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 1196-r as of 09.06.2010, the Instructions of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 47217 / 1 / 1-10 as of 09.08.2010 and Article 1 of the Law of Ukraine “On the safety and quality of food”.

“Adaptation of Ukrainian legislation in the sphere of technical regulation is implemented by introduction of technical regulations on the basis of relevant EU directives.
